Stromma Amsterdam canal cruises departure times vary by season.

In winter, our canal cruises typically departs every 30 minutes (10:00–21:00).

In summer, our canal cruises typically departs every 15 minutes (09:00–18:00) and every 30 minutes (18:00–22:00).

Please check the booking calendar for the latest departure times on your selected date.

We recommend booking your Amsterdam canal cruise in advance and arriving 15 minutes before departure.

For groups of 20+ guests, pre-booking is required - please contact our customer service.

The duration depends on the canal cruise you choose. Most Stromma Amsterdam canal cruises last around 60–75 minutes. You’ll always see the exact duration on the tour page and in the booking calendar before you confirm your booking.

During the 1-hour cruise, or the 1-hour and 15-minute Amsterdam Canal Cruise, an audio guide provides information about the city, you can listen to on your phone by downloading our app, available in 19 different languages. The guide will tell you about Amsterdam if they can. On our Open Boat Tours, the skipper also acts as your guide and will inform you about Amsterdam.

Yes. During very hot days (around 30°C) or an official heatwave in the Netherlands, we take extra precautions to protect the safety and comfort of our guests. Our sailing schedule in Amsterdam may change, so please check our website or ask in the Stromma ticket shop for the latest departure times.

On these hotter days, children under 4 and elderly guests in poor health are not allowed to join the cruise.

Tips for guests when heat procedure is in effect:
Airy clothing, cover head
Use sunscreen
Bring/drink plenty of water
Seek out the shade

Plan your tour in the morning or afternoon/evening if possible.

Strollers/prams are not allowed on board. However, you can leave your stroller safely at our ticket shop at the departure location while you’re on your Amsterdam canal cruise.

Dogs are generally not allowed on board. In some cases, the skipper may allow a dog at their discretion, so please ask your skipper before departure. Assistance dogs are always allowed.

No. Based on previous experiences, Stromma do not allow bachelor parties on board our Amsterdam canal tours.

Capacity varies by boat type. On average, our covered boats hold around 50 passengers. Our larger open boats typically carry around 32 passengers, and our smaller open boats around 10 passengers. Find out more about Stromma's fleet in Amsterdam.

The next Amsterdam Light Festival 2026/27 starts at the end of November 2026. 

Our boats in Amsterdam are not wheelchair accessible. To board, you need to descend three steps, and many jetties can only be reached via stairs. If your wheelchair can be folded and you are able to manage a few steps, you may still be able to join the cruise. For safety reasons, the onboard aisle must be kept clear, so folded wheelchairs must be stored where the crew instructs. If you have any questions, please contact our customer service in advance.

Canal cruise prices in Amsterdam vary depending on the type of cruise (classic sightseeing, open boat, evening, or special cruises), the duration, and the season. Children up to and including 3 years old join for free. You’ll always see the exact price before you confirm your booking online.

Our Pedal Boats in Amsterdam, you can hire all year round. The Pedal Boats in Utrecht, you can hire from April to October.

We have an average of two life jackets available for each location.

Our pedal boats in Amsterdam and Utrecht are suitable for 4 people. The two people sitting at the front pedal, but not the two people at the back. Of course, you could swap places on the way.

This depends on the season and on the weather on the day itself. Unfortunately, we cannot give exact opening times, but they will be at least from 10 am to 5.30 pm. On the day itself, you can contact us on +31 20 217 0501 to ask about the actual opening times.
