Borgund Church
If you are fond of churches and architecture, you should definitely see Borgund Church. The church is built partly upon reminiscenses of Peter’s Church from the 11.th century. It has beautiful wooden carvings and has also preserved much of the roman style. From Sunnmøre Museum, a 7-10 minutes walk.

Aksla Viewpoint is the place to go for a stunning view of Ålesund. Choose between walking the 418 steps to the top, or let the hop on hop off bus driving you all the way. It is also possible to stop on the way up the stairs, if you don’t manage all those steps. The viewpoint entrace price is 100NOK.

Ålesund city center
Ålesund is among the most important Norwegian fishing harbours. In 1904, a disastrous fire destroyed all the buildings, though everything was rebuilt at the initiative of the German emperor. Since then, the centre of Ålesund offers a unique view of buildings in Jugend style (Art Noveau).

Bybrann Monumentet Iginis
Right by the tourist information, you will find the Town Fire Monument, memorating the terrible fire in 1904. On the pillars you will find pictures of the town centre, as it was before the fire took it all away, and pictures of the rebuilding.

Ålesund Fishing Museum
The museum shows the rich history of the fishing industry along the coast, and how the harbours influenced towns and surroundings. You learn about the technology developed, and the use of different vessels from early times. From the Jugend Style Centre it is a 5 minutes walk.

BUS STOP: ÅLESUND CHURCH

Ålesund Church
The first church located where Ålesund Church stands today was built in 1854, but unfortunately destroyed by the big fire in 1904. In 1906 already the new church was planned and designed by Sverre Knudsen. The organ in this church is among the largest in Norway.

Ålesund Aquarium
Ask the bus driver to stop at Steinvågvegen, and a walk from there to The Atlantic Sea Park will take 5 minutes. There are also ordinary bus routes to The Atlantic Sea Park going from the centre of Ålesund all weekdays (Not Sundays). Buses are marked «Akvariebussen».
