Amsterdam Gay Pride is without a doubt one of the happiest events of the year. This year the event takes place from Saturday July 29th until Sunday August 6. During 9 days there will be festivities and celebrations all over town. In this blog we tell you about the ultimate things to do at Amsterdam Gay Pride 2017. Don't miss these events!
On Saturday July 29th, Amsterdam Gay Pride kicks off with a march to support everyone in the LGBTI community who can't be here themselves. Join this walk to spread love and to support those living in one of the 76 countries where being gay is still a criminal offence. The Pride Walk starts at the Homo monument at 11 AM and ends at the Vondelpark which is transformed into Pride Park for the occasion. At the park, there will be sports clinics, a rainbow market and live music at the open air theatre.
If you do only one thing at Amsterdam Gay Pride, let this be it! The famous Canal Parade is without a doubt the ultimate highlight of Pride week. During the parade 80 organizations show what they stand for with their flamboyant boats and floats. There are boats from the biggest political parties in The Netherlands and the national police force to large corporations like Uber and Google. One of the more timely participants this year is a 'Make America Gay Again boat'. The Canal Parade is held on Saturday August 5th, starting at 1 PM.
In the closing weekend of Gay Pride Amsterdam, August 4 to 6, street parties and open air events will be organized all over the city. Get your rainbow on and check out the Pride main stage at Dam Square, the street parties at Zeedijk and of course the epic celebration at the Homo monument on Westermarkt. Wherever you decide to go, come as you are and embrace this year's Gay Pride theme "This is my pride"!
