The Coronation of Poppea – Summer Opera 2026
In summer 2026, Drottningholm Palace Theatre presents a magnificent new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea) – Claudio Monteverdi’s celebrated opera from 1642. The production will be performed between 1 and 15 August, with eight exclusive performances in the world-unique 18th-century theatre at Drottningholm. Tickets go on sale 25 November 2025.
Monteverdi’s Poppea’s Coronation is a timeless story of love, power and ambition – one of the most acclaimed works in the history of opera. Emperor Nero and his beloved Poppea take centre stage in a drama filled with emotion, intrigue and musical brilliance.
The production is led by Anna Karinsdotter, Artistic Director of Drottningholm Palace Theatre, and Francesco Corti, Music Director. Together with an international artistic team, they bring Monteverdi’s masterpiece to life in this remarkable Baroque theatre.
