However you choose to get there, Sandhamn has plenty in store once you arrive, here are our top picks.
Trouville, on the southern tip of the island, is a gently sloping beach with fine white sand that feels more Mediterranean than Scandinavian. It's about a 20-minute walk from the harbour. Perfect for a sunny day out with a picnic.
Next to the historic Customs House in the harbour, the Sandhamn Archipelago Museum tells the story of life on the island over the centuries. Open daily during summer and well worth a visit for adults and kids alike.
Stroll along the harbour and explore the charming little summer stalls. You'll find local crafts, clothing, books and souvenirs, including the popular crime novels by Viveca Sten, whose Sandhamn murder mystery series has made the island famous well beyond Sweden.
Down by the guest marina, there's a classic mini golf course open throughout the summer. A relaxed and easy-going activity for all ages.

One of Sandhamn's most beloved cafés, serving freshly baked waffles, homemade pastries, ice cream and Swedish classics like Toast Skagen – a rich open-faced sandwich topped with shrimp and dill. Sit out in the leafy garden with views over the harbour.
Sandhamns Värdshus has been part of island life since the 1600s. Come for the classic Swedish cooking – steak tartare, seafood stew – and stay for the atmosphere on the waterside terrace.
A popular harbour-side restaurant with stunning views, a solid menu and a wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails. A summer evening on Dykarbaren's terrace is hard to beat.
Stop by the local bakery and pick up fresh bread and pastries to take with you. Local specialities like Sandhamnslimpa (the island's own sourdough loaf) and Seglarbullen (the iconic Sailor's Bun) are an absolute must-try.
