Join us on an exclusive full-day cruise and experience the very best of the Stockholm archipelago in a single day! The cruise runs aboard Strömma Kanalbolaget's classic archipelago vessel M/S Waxholm III, built in 1903. Departing from central Stockholm and sailing through the inner archipelago all the way to the Nämdö Archipelago National Park in the outer islands.
The cruise is accompanied by the ship's own onboard guide, and throughout the day we go ashore on three of the archipelago's most well-known islands for a guided tour: Kymmendö, Bullerö and Sandhamn.
The ticket also includes morning coffee, lunch, afternoon coffee and dinner.
First-class Service and Time to Unwind
From the moment you step aboard, you can let go of everything and simply focus on enjoying yourself. The onboard crew delivers the very best service throughout the day. As the ship departs from Nybroviken and glides through Stockholm's harbour entrance, you'll be served morning coffee and a small open sandwich.
Thoughtfully Composed Meals - Lunch & Dinner
Restaurateurs Maria Svensson and Jesper Taube have together put great care into composing the menus and drinks list to ensure you feel right at home onboard. All food is prepared in the ship's galley using fresh, hand-picked ingredients.
Lunch is served in the dining room onboard, just before or after the ship docks at Kymmendö.
Before the ship reaches Bullerö, as it passes islands such as Nämdö, you'll be served homemade pastries and coffee. Toast the evening with a welcome drink before sitting down to a two-course dinner in the white-tablecloth dining room, as the ship glides through Lindalssundet toward Vaxholm - the capital of the archipelago. The bar, serving drinks, snacks and sweets, is open throughout the day.
Guided Tours Onboard and on Three Archipelago Islands
The ship's guide will share fascinating anecdotes and stories about the places and sights you pass throughout the day. The ship stops at three archipelago islands during the cruise.
Stop 1 – Strindberg's Kymmendö
The first stop is at Kymmendö, where the guide tells you more about the island and takes you to the farm that August Strindberg immortalised as Hemsö. You'll also have free time to explore the island on your own. Visit Strindberg's writing cottage and wander through the sheep pastures. When the ship's bell rings, it's time to make your way back onboard.
Stop 2 – Bullerö Nature Reserve
Next is Bullerö, a scenic nature reserve in the heart of the Nämdö Archipelago National Park, rich in both cultural heritage and artistic inspiration. Join the guide to visit Liljefors' studio, now a museum, or explore the island's beautiful nature at your own pace.
The island has paths and boardwalks that make it easy to get around, even with a pram or wheelchair. Perhaps you'll fancy a swim off the rocks before the ship's bell calls you back onboard?
Stop 3 – The idyllic Sandhamn
The final stop is one of the archipelago's most beloved islands - Sandhamn. A sailor's paradise where winding lanes are lined with charming houses and enchanting pine forests. Follow the guide to the older parts of the island and enjoy entertaining stories about both its past and present.
Things to Look For
For many archipelago residents, M/S Waxholm III is a cherished part of summer. At several points along the route, people come out onto their decks and rocky outcrops to wave happily as we pass - and we wave back, sounding the steam whistle and ship's bell in reply. Wildlife in the Stockholm archipelago is plentiful, and if you're lucky, you may spot a white-tailed eagle or a grey seal out near the open sea.
Good Things to Pack
The weather in the archipelago can change quickly over the course of a full day, so we recommend bringing:
- An extra warm jumper
- An umbrella or rain gear
- A blanket for the evening
- Swimwear
- Sun cream
As this is a long trip, spent mostly out on the water, we do not recommend the cruise for young children.
