This picturesque archipelago town has a vivid harbour, many small boutiques and restaurants and beautiful buildings from different areas of Swedish history. Vaxholm is the last dock with road connections to the mainland and has been the junction point for archipelago traffic since the 19th century.
When you visit Vaxholm, take your time to also visit the citadel - Vaxholms Kastell. King Gustav Vasa founded the citadel in the beginning of the 16th century to defend Stockholm against invaders. Now it is harbouring a museum showing the history of the archipelago defence and the life at the citadel during the past 500 years. On the fortress island there are also two restaurants, a B&B and a conference centre. If you are a group you can sign up for a team challenge in the Vaxholm version of Fort Boyard.
Cafeteria and restaurant on board the Cinderella boats
Onboard there is a café where you can order a cup of coffee with pastries and freshly made sandwiches. During peak season (about May–Aug), Cinderella I also offers lunch cruises and dinner cruises for those who only want to dine aboard and not leave the boat. Read more about our Dining Cruises.
