Experience Stockholm's middle archipelago and visit its capital of Vaxholm. Come aboard our flagship the S/S Stockholm from 1931 at Nybroviken in central Stockholm and enjoy a fantastic boat trip to Vaxholm. Larger than most traditional archipelago passenger boats, the S/S Stockholm has a beautiful art deco-style interior. She has a spacious dining room and light-filled lounges.
Experience the capital of the archipelago
We warmly recommend a visit to the archipelago’s idyllic capital of Vaxholm. The harbour and the main street are the beating heart of the town, with delightful shops and art galleries, as well as charming cafés and restaurants. Explore the idyllic little town and stroll through the old quarter, with its quaint pastel-painted Edwardian wooden houses. Pass the main square and admire the town hall with its distinctive onion-shaped dome. The town’s tourist information centre is located here too, if you want to know more about Vaxholm.
A dip in the sea
There are several central bathing places in Vaxholm if you want to swim and sunbathe. One of the prettiest spots is Norrhamnsbadet, just below the picturesque rocks at Battery Park. There are rocks for sunbathing, a jetty and a small sandy beach that’s especially child friendly.
Plentiful pastries buffet in a stunning location
Vaxholm’s Hembygdsgård and folk museum are located at the water’s edge on the Blombergska promontory in Norrhamnen. A visit to the Hembygdsgården café for refreshments is highly recommended during the summer months. A fantastic buffet of homemade cakes, pastries, buns and much more is served every day. If you want to eat lunch, they also serve classic prawn open sandwiches, waffles and delicious salads.
Discover the historic Vaxholm Citadel
If you want to explore the historic Vaxholm Citadel, you can jump off the S/S Stockholm at the fortress or disembark at Vaxholm and then take the chain ferry across to the citadel. The chain ferry operates daily throughout the summer period, with several departures each hour.

Food & drink on board
On board the S/S Stockholm, you’ll find a KRAV-certified restaurant and cafeteria if you want to enjoy a meal, coffee or a drink during your trip.
Bus or boat back to Stockholm
Getting back to Stockholm is easy: you have many options and simply choose the one that suits you best. We recommend rejoining the S/S Stockholm at the time of the next departure – please check the current timetable for the exact times. Another pleasant boat option is to hop on one of our Cinderella boats. If none of these departures suit you, you can always take an SL bus from Söderhamnsplan in Vaxholm and jump off at Tekniska Högskolan in Stockholm, a journey that takes about 45 minutes.
